The very best
of Andalusia

The strength and character of Andalusia are so remarkable that many see it as synonymous with Spain, and also with Al-Andalus. However, Andalusia is a world in its own right. Here, you will find cities of impressive beauty, the most important Islamic monuments in the West, white villages perched on hills, streets full of flower pots, endless landscapes of olive trees, and long white sandy beaches. In Andalusia, you will find a part of yourself.

Andalusia Travel Tips

CHOOSE YOUR DATES

Any time of the year is excellent to visit Andalusia. The best one for you may depend on your interests and expectations. Spring (mainly April, May and June) is always wonderful: the cities, full of flowers, are at their very best. Many visitors choose this moment so hotel prices skyrocket, especially in the interior and monumental cities (Córdoba, Seville and Granada) and you’ll have to deal with long queues to enter the main monuments. Summer (July, August and September, especially the first two months) is the peak season for coastal destinations, such as Malaga and the Costa del Sol, which are filled with European and Spanish tourists looking for the beaches. Temperatures can be very high in inland cities (Seville, Córdoba…), so they receive fewer visitors and prices drop. Autumn and winter can be excellent for cultural tourism and you will also find many days with bright blue skies. Generally, the snow covers the mountains near Granada from late November until mid-February or March.

Easter / Holy Week (on a variable date of March and/or April) deserves a special mention. It is one of the times when Andalusia receives more national and international visitors. Religious celebrations are certainly spectacular, so the streets and hotels are crowded and even the normal functioning of cities and some monuments (such as the Mosque-Cathedral of Cordoba) is disturbed.

HOW TO GETAndalusia is the largest region in Spain. It is located in the South of the country. Its eight provinces -Almería, Córdoba, Cádiz, Granada, Huelva, Jaén, Málaga and Seville- are connected by a good network of free roads and highways. The main connection with the rest of Spain, and more specifically with Madrid, is through the A-4 / E-05 highway.

By plane. The region has 4 national airports (Almería, Córdoba, Granada-Jaén and Jerez de la Frontera in Cádiz) and 2 international airports: Malaga and Seville. Thus, these two cities are connected to the main European destinations and Morocco. In addition, during the summer months the connections are extended from Malaga with flights to / from the Middle East.

By train. RENFE, the national railway network, offers a complete and wide service which interconnects the capitals and a large part of the Andalusian municipalities. Especially interesting are the high-speed trains that connect Córdoba, Seville, Malaga and Granada with Madrid, Barcelona and Valencia.

By boat. Throughout its 836 km of coasts, Andalusia has more than 30 marinas, 2 river ports and 15 commercial ports. Apart from the cruises, there are regular ferry lines that connect Andalusia with North Africa and the Canary Islands. The most used is the one that connects Tangier with the ports of Algeciras and Tarifa.

FROM THEREThe beauty and cultural richness of Andalusia and its wonderful cities are so great that you will always want to return. Depending on the time you have and your interests, you will be able to get to know the essential destinations in greater or less depth -in this website you will find a good selection of visits and essential experiences- but, if you can, do not miss the opportunity to enjoy more calmly the smaller villages, the landscapes, the nature and, of course, the local people.

In addition, from Andalusia you can easily reach Morocco and Portugal.

WHERE TO PRAYThe main Andalusian cities have one or more operational mosques, some of them in central and privileged locations. See the information on each city for more details.
